Kirk Horan was out of work, laid up on his back and deep in debt. Staring up at the ceiling after a third debilitating wrist injury, he had one thought “Lord, how am I getting out of this mess?”
Kirk grew up in an economically depressed small town in upstate New York. The medium income was about $28,000 a year at the time
“I watched my parents both work very hard their whole lives. For as long as I can remember, they lived paycheck to paycheck. I knew I didn’t want to follow in their footsteps.”
When he grew up, Kirk became a firefighter and had a side job as a roofer making pretty good cash. Soon, however, he got in over his head and started buying toys such as ATV’s, snowmobiles, jet skis and a new truck.
“I had good credit and could afford the payments. When you’re young, you don’t stop to worry about the future”.
MY PASSION IS DRIVEN BY THE DESIRE TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT THIS IS A BETTER WAY.” Kirk Horan
But then, a few years and 2 kids later, a series of bad luck and struggles left him on the brink. In 2003, an aortic aneurysm came very close to taking his life. A tumble off a roof put him out of work again 3 years later. And finally, a snowmobile accident put him on the couch and in yet another desperate situation.
He was broke, not getting any younger, and did not know what to do.
“I had no Plan B. I just succumbed to the idea that this was how life was going to be. I was going to struggle like my parents did.”
An Opportunity Comes Along
Soon afterwards, Kirk was invited to a meeting to learn about a new business. “I had been exposed to network marketing before but it wasn’t for me. But what they said that night made sense to me.”
He went to bed that night and couldn’t sleep. “My mind was spinning. I was just thinking if this is real, it could be big.”
Kirk was thinking about his life situation. “I had been working hard for over 20 years. I was 37 years old and had spent most of my life working at two jobs. I was exactly where I said I never wanted to be – like my parents. Living paycheck to paycheck and without a savings account. I said, ‘you know what’? I’ve wasted this kind of money on the weekend before, I’m gonna go for it!”
Kirk was excited. He believed in the company and started having success from the very beginning. “I did not look back and I treated it like a real business from day one.” he says “I didn’t consider it a hobby. I showed up and did something substantial every day”
And the hard work and professionalism paid off. Working the business part time, Kirk has made over $1 million from the company.
Eight years after starting, he retired at 45 and his wife retired at 41. Even though he spent the last 5 years working at the firehouse, he already knew he made much more money with network marketing than with firefighting. “I had fought so hard to keep that job and did not want to walk away from it. But I also knew my two boys would be proud of me if I retired from that career.”
Kirk is still working his network marketing business and having the time of his life. “I still get excited. I can’t sleep at night knowing how much opportunity is out there.”
Anyone Can Do It
“My story is one of many. We are surrounded by people who are not only drowning in debt but drowning in negativity. My passion is driven by the desire to show people that this is a better way.” says Kirk.
“If you believe in your network marketing company, and put in the effort required to be successful, your Plan B will replace your Plan A. If people believe in the process and go for it, it will work for them.”
Kirk and his wife aren’t flashy but they live a comfortable life. “I already put myself in a situation where I was living beyond my means and I’ll never do that again. It’s the little things in life for us. My son just turned 18 and he’s graduating and we got him a new car.”
“You know, I would never have imagined that before. We have money in the bank. We live a stress free life. We’re just excited about the future. I had no experience in network marketing. It’s humbling to know that it really works if you put in the effort.”
